Pinterest upgrades that will improve your Marketing

Pinterest has quickly become a force to be reckoned with. While it was no secret that most people are visual learners and love to look at pictures, Pinterest took that knowledge and catapulted it into super social media stardom. If you are using this particular social media vehicle, you understand the power it holds. With the ability to pin virtually anything, your message reaches millions of people within seconds. That’s a great way to build brand equity.

One of the beautiful things about Pinterest is that it can be used across multiple industries. Self-storage facilities can use this tool in a variety of ways to enhance their marketing. For instance, putting pictures of your units, or the outside of a facility that is really nice can be a winning combination. Showing pictures of climate-controlled units, or specialty niche units like wine storage, for instance, will get people interested, which will then drive them to your site. People don’t go where people don’t know. This allows the customer to visually see what they want and they can make better decisions.

Pinterest has added a few upgrades to increase functionality within the system. By adding “related pins” to home feeds, discovery features and pin-based recommendations will work a little better. This feature was added to assist users in finding pins they like. These pins are not that different from how it was once used, but it will be clearer in the home feed area. These pins will be linked to posts that have already been saved or liked, and they will also be accompanied by a thumb up or down feature to improve feedback and improve additional functions over time.

While this is a great way to consistently increase market share over time, marketers have to make sure that their strategic focus is to keep potential clients engaged through vibrant pictures and interaction. This requires a constant update of material. Pinterest should also be used with additional social media platforms to enhance brand equity. Once you have market share, it’s very important to keep it. The saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” reigns supreme here, and companies need to tackle the use of this platform with a well-thought strategy.

Other suggestions that may work well for niche industries would be putting together complete boards. A self-storage facility could put together a board that shows how a unit could best utilize space, complete with pictures of shelving, bins, labeling and more. If marketing to business people who need space is a strategy, putting together a board with desks, office supplies and other tools that business people use would be a great way to showcase the space. Ikea does a great job of showing how to maximize the most of a small space. If done right, self-storage companies can do the same.

It’s all in the effort you put into your campaigns that will make the difference. Taking the time now to strategize the right way will result in big payoffs in the future.

Come on Down to the Facility

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/property/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787
What would you do if you walked into a facility that was completely disgusting? Most people would turn around and walk back out. Other people might consider still going through with renting a storage space. Would it be different if the manager told you they had a nice and super clean facility on to find out they were lying? How would that affect your self storage experience? Would that make you not trust other things they said or did? If you say no to this question, you are definitely in the minority.
Many managers ask the customer they are speaking with over the phone that they invite them to come down and see the facility. They do this for a couple of different reasons. They do this to get the customer to compare different facilities and also to get the customer to come down to their facility. Many property managers think that if they can get the customer to come in to their facility, the customer will rent from them. They believe that they have the best of what is offered in the self storage world. The property managers also want you to see how their competition does not take care of their property. This is to their advantage.
What makes a customer decide to rent a storage space? This has been the age long question that many owners have contemplated. There is not a unique system of things that can help one facility rent more spaces than the next one. One of the things that can help a property manager with getting the customer to decide to rent with them is deciding to be completely truthful with the customer. If you tell the caller something about your facility or what you can do for them, follow through with those thoughts. If you are asked something by a customer and you are unsure whether or not you can do it, tell the customer that. Do not make a promise that you can not keep.
The disconnection between the manager and the customer sometimes is the expectations of storage. If the customer comes down to the facility and they see something completely different than is described then they will not be pleased. So when you tell the customer about your facility, be as truthful as possible. It is completely ridiculous to think that you can lie to a person and it not come back to bite you. It is very simple to sell to the customer what you have and hope for the best. The customer only expects you as a property manager to give accurate information.
The customer will go down to the facility that they believe is the best for them. They will visit as many facilities as they feel they need or not visit any facilities at all. It is there choice. Always be ready for a customer when they come into your facility. It is always great when the customer ahs already spoken to you and now they see they can trust you as you have told the truth about your facility. When you ask the customer to come on down to your facility, you are inviting them into your world of self storage. You always want to put your best foot forward. There is nothing like hearing a customer come in telling you that the competition’s storage units are disgusting while yours are spotless.

Using the Right Packing Material

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/property/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

I often talk to people who need a storage unit.  It seems that those who need a small space usually store things in totes.  Mostly they store clothes or small items.  I would hate to use small bags or even boxes to store my belongings. Unfortunately there are some facilities that do not do a great job of maintaining their facility and keep the rodents and bugs out. If that is the case then you will have issues keeping your clothes protected.

In addition to that bags can’t hold very much (unless you use a garbage bag), and they don’t stack.  That makes it really hard to organize your space.  If they rip, ALL of your things come out, and they fall over as well. It is definitely not a great idea to keep your belongings in a bag.

You can usually find free boxes at your location discount retailer, so why waste your time on bags? You can definitely drive around to your different grocery stores in the area to see if they have boxes that they want to throw out. You could find gold with finding some sturdy boxes. If you can’t find good boxes, you can always use totes. They are good to stack and keep safe in your storage unit.

Self Storage Customer Service

If you talk to a property manager they will tell you that your shopping is over and you should rent form their facility. Well those are the self storage managers that are actually doing their jobs and asking for the sale. Some property managers will tell you that there is really no perfect way to shop for storage. Just find what you feel is important and go with it. You may feel that the price is the most important thing and that is fine. It is up to you. Just keep in mind that the cheapest may be a little sub standard in terms of cleanliness and security.
It is very important that property manager really sells a customer on what they have to offer. If they are not able to do this then the next manager will sell the customer that they have what they need. Most times the customer will go for it. Sometimes the presentation of the property manager will be great while others will leave something to be desired. Please do not be sucked in by promises that seem to good to be true. Make sure that you find a way to ensure that what the property manager is saying is what they will deliver.

Moving? Put some humor into it!

Moving can be a very stressful time. You can’t think straight, there’s a lot of paperwork, you’re surprised at everything you’ve accumulated and want to throw it all away. Take a minute and BREATHE. When you feel overwhelmed because of a move one of the best things you can do is to put humor into it. If you’re a television watcher, there are many shows that feature moving and the situations that occur when faced with this dilemma. Although it may not be funny when you first think about having to move, there’s always a little sunshine in everything. Here are a couple of shows that you may want to think about or look at the reruns to get a great laugh to help you put your moving hat on and get things into perspective:

  • Seinfield, “Andrea-Doria” - Season 8-Episode 10: When George moves into a better apartment than Jerry and Elaine’s and George says to them: “Hey, you got any extra furniture down there? I need some more stuff to fill that extra bedroom with the walk-in closet.” Jerry: “Oh, this is really annoying.” George responds: “Oh, it’s working already!”

  • 30 Rock, “Into The Crevasse” – Season 4- Episode 2: Tracy Jordan is kicked out again because of information in Liz Lemon’s book Dealbreakers. He must move in with her and delivers a classic line – “Oh yeah, there’s a garbage bag in the hall with a reef shark in it. Just put him in the tub with a reef.”

Others you may want to check out are 30 Rock, S2E1 – “SeinfieldVision”; Friends S4E12 – “The One With The Embryos” and How I Met Your Mother, S2E12 – “No Tomorrow”. These are great spoofs of the moving process and thing that can happen. One thing to remember about moving, everyone does it at some point in their lives.

Once you’ve gotten yourself into moving mode, figure out whether you’re going to need additional storage. There are great self-storage unit facilities that can accommodate any size, climate or situation. The great thing about this is that you can reserve it online and also read reviews to find out how the facility rates in terms of customer service. That’s invaluable. You may also be able to get a discounted rate by searching online. Moving doesn’t have to be all bad – it could be a very exciting time in your life that will be advantageous to you in the future. And … you get to look at all those fancy decorating magazines to see how you can spruce up your things. HGTV works too! They have great shows that will show you how to apply paint, wallpaper, decorate on a budget and more. Keeping everything in perspective and making lists (you can never have too many of these) to assist you in staying organized and making your move smooth is key. Find a great moving company, get your moving supplies, reserve your facility and get to work!

Goodbye Thanksgiving & Fall Winter here we come !

It was 31 degrees this morning where did fall go?  Is it April yet?

November has passed & most people are either getting ready for the colder weather.

Here at Storage Station Toms River & South Toms River we are buttoning up for winter.

Outside parking tenants at our Storage Stations Store at 29 Flint Road in South Toms River NJ  They are checking vehicles, boats Trailers and other wheeled stored items that are stored outside. Putting tarps checking on winterization.

Watching at both our Storage Stations Stores in South Toms River and Also in Toms River NJ. people are back and fourth removing holiday decorations and they bring back items that will not fit in their homes or apartments with the holiday decorations.

There is our manager lubricating the gate making sure it will operate correctly in the cold and inclement weather that will be coming.

We always have to be prepared for ice & snow. Shovels snow melt and to be plowed.

I wouldn’t mind no snow this year rain would be fine.

Oh a van just pulled back in I have another customer waiting.

They will be picking up large holiday gifts and putting them in storage till they need to be removed for the holiday..

No more trying to hide things in the attic basement garage. With their storage space its easy access and stress free. So much easier.

Oh part of our team is outside blowing leaves again. It’ s like a never ending job. Blow them pick them up and more return. The trees are almost empty. That’s the sure sigh winter is around the corner.

Going thru sweeping talking to tenants none are looking forward to show. I guess our skiers aren’t at the storage facility right now.

We have many of our customers storing ski equipment snow mobiles and other fun winter items.

The winter people.

It’s very funny how a storage facility is so multi functional. Most things you can think of storing you can store here for later use.

SNOW SNOW SNOW ….. We had our first snow & ice of the season.

We had the snow plow man here almost 8 inches.
ICE also was not good pulls on everything.  We had a gutter section come down our manager got it back up. Then we had warm weather again it was 45 degrees.

Crazy weather, it then went cold it was 19 degrees Brrrrrrr.

Walking around speaking to our tenants as we do lock checks. Everyone wants to move south myself included. It’s been just to COLD but it’s talk when we get warm in April all the cold is forgotten and our mind goes to the summer season.

OK here we go to the second floor. A tenant a few units pulling out  a bicycle and a big tricycle, and a few other toys that need assembly. He said his wife said you need to finish these today. Moving from one to one so many parts.

We have a tenant assembling a artificial Christmas tree in their unit. All the lights & balls are in Place. She has a BIG bag that you would use to dispose of a real tree after the holiday. She lives a crossed the street in the apartments. Christmas eve she said her husband will come over and get the tree when the children are asleep. Then when the children wake up Christmas morning it is there. That is such a good use for her storage unit besides storing gifts and other items.

Oh there goes our manager with the salt spreader. Up and down the property in the middle there is black ice. The ice melt works well eliminating the issue.  It keeps us ice free.

Here comes that van again I wonder where it has been. It’s so interesting where people go with rented vehicles.  Work Shopping and projects around the house. This person has a unit here and is storing the supplies for his remodel of his kitchen. That’s an excellent idea for people with no garage who are doing a remodel project at home. We have the perfect size for every remodel job this tenant is using a 10×15. It is so much easier to have a larger unit to organize the cabinets here before he takes them to his house for installation.

Let me go help my associate I see him at the gate it is stuck with the cold weather.

We need to get it free so it operates properly for all our tenants It’s up to 23 degrees like a heat wave today, but we will survive the cold.

Here comes another of our newest tenants he is still packing and buying boxes, bubble wrap and tape.

The move in to the storage unit has started and we are supplying him with all he needs to pack up the contents of his home for the trip here.

Oh there is the van back at the apartments. So many people from there rent from us we are close and a very clean location.

Our oldest tenant is coming in carrying his lock. Its all rusted and hard to turn the key. I sold him a new disc lock of stainless steel no more rusting.

That’s some of the things that go on here daily. We are always here to help any way we can.

Well its time for me to walk around the property and do my tour checking locks and making sure all is secure for our tenants.

Don’t forget to check us out on Facebook! Many new articles and blogs of interest are posted for everyone to read. You can also, give us a call direct if you are looking for seasonal or year round storage. We would be happy to help in any way to make your stay with us as easy and worry free as possible. We would be happy to give you a tour of the facility and get you into the storage unit or parking spot that is just right for your needs.

Our office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 4:30 PM. Saturdays we are open 10:00 AM until 2:30PM.

We are always here to help you with your storage needs in any way we can.

Organize Your Kitchen to Prepare For the Holidays.

Pull-Out Storage
Pull-Out Storage

We know that Halloween just passed, but the signs of the holidays approaching are becoming more and more apparent. Stores are putting their holiday decorations out, holiday commercials are starting to air, and Starbucks even has their red holiday cups out! So don’t let yourself get behind in the hype of the holidays. You know what you have to do so get ahead while you have the time. One way to get ahead is by organizing your kitchen so you are prepared to cook for the holidays.

The first step you will want to take is to get any items you don’t use often that you may have stored away. Think of all the kitchen items you’ll need for your holiday cooking and baking and make sure they’re available and ready in your kitchen.

Next you’ll want to make sure the items in your kitchen are in an order that makes sense. Keep like items together in your cabinet so they are easy to find. You may also want to invest in items that will assist in your organization, like this CanSolidator from Costco, which will make it easier to organize the cans in your pantry (and keep them from “hiding” other items). Items like a Lazy Susan in your cabinet will make it easy to get to those items in the back, especially for smaller items that you may have a lot of like spices. Another great tip is to hang items that you can, like aprons and potholders, to keep them from crowding up your drawers.

We suggest you get started on organizing your kitchen because the holidays are going to sneak up on us soon. Once you do that, you may even want to start taking your holiday decorations out of your self storage unit at LifeStorage.

Everything Your Self Storage Business Needs to Know about Twitter's New Update

If you use Twitter to market your self storage business then you have noticed in the past weeks that there have been a few changes to the layout on both the web and mobile applications. Twitter recently introduced a number of changes aimed at making the social network service more visual. If you use your tweets to communicate self storage deals and highlight your facility, then these new updates will slightly alter what you are currently doing.

Twitter now allows Vine posts to be embedded directly into users timelines. Before this update, a link to the video would be displayed and a user would have to open it in a browser or another Twitter window. Instead of the extra hassle of opening the link in another application, users now have the ability to see the video directly in their streams.

When making self storage Vine videos, your thumbnail image should be catchy and stimulating in order to get the user to click. Since Twitter users will now automatically see the a still of the video once they follow you or come across your tweet, you will want to ensure that your marketing message is heard loud and clear.

The timeline preview is the same for pictures as well. Pictures are displayed by default in users timelines. This presents an excellent opportunity if you usually post self storage flyers on Twitter. The attempt at making Twitter more visual means that you will need to make your images graphically stimulating. Choose pictures that will capture the attention of people who are scrolling along their timelines.

Currently, there is no option to turn off the automatic display of pictures and videos. Some user have expressed concern especially at the fact that some pictures may not be safe for work but are still automatically shown. There are a couple of adblock and browser extension options that have popped up following the announcement of the release. Some Twitter users seem to be less than thrilled about not having a choice whether or not to see the images that everyone they follow releases.

Try to ensure that your images are not spammy in nature. Since users can’t opt-out of this new feature, they will be looking to cut down on nuisances in any way possible. If your account routinely spams users’ timelines, then this behavior could possibly get you unfollowed.

Since this release was done only a couple weeks ago, it is still too early to tell how users will adapt and interact with companies in the self storage industry and others. However, if you follow our guide on using Twitter in your online marketing strategy, then this change will allow you to maximize your efforts even further.

How to Care for Items in a Self Storage Unit

There is more to leaving items in self storage , than packing a unit and unpacking it when it is time to move your belongings out. In fact, the maintenance of the self storage unit will vary according to which one you choose. The large part of caring for your self storage unit will rest the type of things you store. The actual maintenance of the physical surroundings will be done by the self storage facility but the customer is responsible for what goes on inside the unit.

How can you ensure that your belongings come out of the unit in the same condition as they go in? A climate controlled unit is a great place to start. There is less upkeep involved with these units since the temperature is kept at a constant rate. This means it is less likely that items in the unit will be susceptible to the side effects of extremely high or low temperatures. There is a higher cost associated with these units so keep this is mind when planning your budget and how much you have to spend on a self storage unit.

If you are renting a regular unit, then ensure the items in it are clean and dry. If you store items that have even the least bit of moisture, then you are exposing your belongings to possible mildew. This means that you will have to regularly check your items to guarantee that they are free from any damage. Keep in mind that there are certain items that work better in a climate controlled unit than a regular one. If you have items such as clothing or wine, then reconsider renting a regular self storage unit and try to go for the air conditioned option instead.

Items in a self storage unit should also be packed properly. Store everything in air tight containers, when appropriate, and use adequate boxes. When storing valuable items, you don’t want to risk something falling over and breaking so make sure everything is secure. Don’t just get regular boxes. There are special storage boxes that help to further protect items from outside elements. Also choose a secure lock to further protect your items from the risk of burglary.

When placing items into self storage, ensure that they are raised, especially if you choose an outside storage unit. These units have a higher likelihood of water intrusion and you will want to do everything possible to prevent water getting to your items. If storing furniture, in addition to keep them raised to guard against water, preventing dust is also a priority. Cotton covers help to keep dust and debris off furniture. It is not recommended to use plastic covers since they encourage moisture build up, which can lead to mildew and mold.

The items in your self storage unit are undoubtedly valuable, no matter the actual cash value. Most times, people store items of sentimental value, which are priceless. Don’t make the mistake of storing items incorrectly or failing to care for them while in storage, which can lead to potential ruin. To begin the self storage process, search the hundreds of self storage units on OMGstorage now.

What’s the most effective way to move?

When faced with a situation that will require you to move, you may be caught off guard. When that happens, it’s time to regroup and assess the situation. Typically, it may not be the best situation, but it’s up to you to make it a conducive situation that meets your needs.

First think about the major things:

  • Is it something you can do yourself or will you have to hire movers?
This is a very important question. If you have the means to do it yourself, you want to make sure you know exactly what you need for a flawless move. It wouldn’t make sense to not have the proper equipment or packing tools because you will end up having more damage than it’s worth. If you have to hire movers, do your research. You want movers that have a stellar reputation of getting the job done and doing exactly what they were hired to do in the time allotted. Make sure they are reputable and have a great history of being conscientious with customer belongings.

  • Know the costs involved.
There are costs involved, period. Whether you are moving yourself, which would include gas, blankets and renting a truck if you don’t have one, there is a significant amount of money that may come into play. With movers, make sure you know the total costs involved and make sure there are no hidden fees. You don’t want to get caught up into a situation where you are faced with paying hundreds of dollars that weren’t anticipated. And make sure if you are using a moving company, insure your items for the full amount.

  • Make sure you have the proper packing tools.
This includes the correct sizes and types of boxes, bubble wrap, newspaper, packing tape, markers and possibly labels. Boxes can be found anywhere, but if you will have to store items, new boxes are the best. You can find them online, at home improvement stores and even Walmart. This is important so that you won’t break your valuables and you also know where each and every box will go. If you have items that will be transferred to a self-storage facility, it’s good to have those with neon colored labels so there will be no confusion.

  • Have all your paperwork in order.
This is a very crucial step. If you’re moving to an unfamiliar area, have your route mapped out. If you’re using movers, make sure you have all their contact numbers, your contract numbers and they have your contact numbers in their possession. It’s good to have a moving notebook that lists your inventory and everything associated with the move in one handy place. A bright colored notebook works best to easily be found.

  • Make sure you have the keys for your new place and a lock for your self-storage facility, especially if you are moving your things in after hours.

This is just a general listing, but should get you started and in the right mindset to have a smooth, effective move.

The Mobile Environment: How does yours measure up?

In today’s technological environment, everything is a challenge. Knowing how to integrate and navigate mobile apps into your business model is crucial in staying ahead of the game. When determining your strategy, don’t think of adding mobile apps as just a numbers game. There is much more to consider. You need to move beyond the statistics and think about the end user. What are your clients looking for, and how do you make their visit better?

Viewing a website on a mobile device is quite different from the standard user experience. You can hinder your rankings by having a mobile environment that isn’t user friendly. Although SEO is slightly different from a mobile perspective, you need to have links and keyword optimization – yes, even on mobile platforms. Also focus on your bounce rate, page load times and the reduction of redirects. This will help you gain value in your SEO strategies and performance. You’ll even start to see a direct difference in your rankings.

When deducing your logic for your SEO, think about the size of a mobile device. The screen is smaller, but having the right information is key. Make sure your titles, meta data and content include keywords that will help the user find what they want quickly. People using mobile devices are just that – mobile. They may not have the time to sift through pages like they would normally do in a desktop environment. Taking that into consideration a unresponsive design will help you design a better platform for your customers.

Most savvy businesses are moving into the world of responsive design. What’s that? It’s when your mobile site is optimized to become your mobile platform. It grabs the size of your screen and adjusts so that your users will have the complete website at their fingertips. This helps alleviate the need to have separate coding and apps. For businesses that utilize search engines, this could be a great help. One of the great things about having a responsive design is that all your keywords and meta data can remain the same, saving time and manpower. It’s done once and you can move on.

Even with responsive design, you need to make sure that your mobile user experience is working well enough for your customers to view it as a valued resource. Having a website that doesn’t provide enough information, or help the customer find what they need in an adequate length of time is like throwing out the baby with the bath water. Consider your content and how it is used. The purpose of having a website is to provide your potential clients, current clients and general public with a resource that can be trusted.

If you do go the mobile app route, make sure it’s tested and free of bugs. You would hate to spend all that time and money for bad reviews and the worst of all – deletion. Bad apps can make that happen. Don’t get caught in the mix – make your mobile experience worthwhile.

Picking the Right Relocation Company

You may have gotten a new position at your company. It's a very exciting time. The problem with that is, the new position is in another state and you have a home and family to worry about. It's times like these that can take your stress level to the extreme. Although most major companies provide relocation assistance, you may want to solicit the help of a professional to navigate the waters of relocating. It can be a very daunting experience. Relocation companies make your transition smooth, making sure to handle the little things that may fall through the cracks.

What exactly is a relocation company?

A relocation company can also be referred to as a moving company that has a variety of services to offer. These services can vary from helping you find a realtor that will assist in locating a place to live in your new town, to making sure all your utilities are turned off in the old place and turned on in the new. As technology abounds, it's very easy to employ these "concierge"; services that will take care of these items. Busy professionals find it very hard to do everything and still focus on doing their job. By soliciting the help of a good relocation company, you can ease into your new setting a little bit easier.

What are some of the things you want to look for when choosing a relocation company? For starters, you want to have a company that is reputable, with references. This is very important, especially if your company is leaving this entire relocation up to you. You definitely don’t want to lose your money. You may be wondering whether or not these moving services actually exist. Truth is, it's a very lucrative business. Major corporations have expanded their businesses into this area and have reaped huge rewards.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Find out if you have a few options of movers to choose from.
  • See what services they offer and if they are as comprehensive as you need them to be.
  • Find out their payment options – never pay the entire amount up front.

Once you have gotten that out of the way, you want to make sure at a minimum, they can do the following:

  • Schedule your move out and move-in dates.
  • Arrange cleaning crews at both residences.
  • Arrange the rental of a self-storage facility and determine what type of unit you need.
  • Coordinate the furniture/items that need to be delivered to the facility and make sure the movers accomplish this.
  • Coordinate utility connections and disconnections.
  • Have all your packers and unpackers ready at both locations.
  • Have all your moving supplies delivered in a timely manner.

This is just scratching the surface, but can help you find the time to do the other things such as acquire school and physician records, get your car services and those other little things that come up at the last minute. Having a licensed company to handle these transactions will get you back to work sooner rather than later and the rest of the family all settled in.

Kenny Pratt and SpareFoot Co-host Industry Twitter Chat

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/property/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

AUSTIN, Texas – Aug. 23, 2011 – To celebrate the growing numbers of self-storage professionals active on Twitter, two social media mavens are joining forces to host the first ever industry Twitter chat, known as #StorChat. Twitter chats are online conversations in which relevant users gather at a specified time to discuss certain topics related to an industry or hobby. Chats are held weekly, with a new topic of discussion set each week. #StorChat will be held Wednesdays from 3-3:30 CST, starting Sept. 7.

#StorChat is hosted by Kenny Pratt (@SellingStorage), President of Crescendo Properties and Editor-In-Chief of Selling Storage, along with Rachel Greenfield (@SpareFoot), Marketing Analyst at SpareFoot and Editor-In-Chief of the Storage Facilitator. The hosts will ask three questions relating to the topic at hand over the course of thirty minutes, and everyone participating is encouraged to answer, discuss and exchange ideas and opinions via tweets.

“The great thing about a Twitter chat is it brings users together from all over country or world to a place where they can interact in real time, rather than communicate in a delayed manner as they might through email or forums,” Pratt said.

Many self-storage operators currently use Twitter as a promotional tool to reach potential customers, but #StorChat hopes to demonstrate there’s more to the platform. It presents a progressive opportunity to meet new connections and learn from knowledgeable peers on anything and everything self-storage business. Twitter chats have been popular and successful in a variety of niche industries, from real estate to multi-family housing to blogging.

Social networks like Twitter can feel overwhelming, so #StorChat offers self-storage professionals the chance to cut their teeth with a group of supportive people they can relate to. Everyone in the industry is encouraged to join in, learn and socialize with their fellow smart and creative storage owners, investors, managers and employees.

The first #StorChat on Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 3-3:30 CST will cover the use of social media marketing in self-storage. To participate, simply sign up for a free Twitter account on Twitter.com (or log in to your current account), then follow the hash tag #StorChat by searching for it in the Twitter search box. Be sure to type the hash tag “#StorChat” at the end of every tweet you send during the chat. Auction Winners Utilize Self Storage

Self Storage auctions have become a huge craze ever since the television shows like “Storage Wars” became popular. Being in the self storage industry I will tell you what, just about every single potential new tenant or new tenant asks the infamous question “do you have auctions just like on Storage Wars”? Of course we do, and then explain that just about every storage facility conducts auctions but storage wars makes storage auctions look real good! It’s no surprise that the popularity of storage auctions on television has perked everyone’s interest in striking it rich finding people’s prized possessions in the depths of a storage space.

Now, let’s face it… If you have your possessions in a self storage unit the chances of you letting it go up for auction is not very likely but, you never know of the circumstance may bring and you really never know what you will find in the depths of a self storage unit when it goes up for auction from everyday items to the more exotic. I know that gazing in to a self storage unit when the auctioneer is auctioning the space off always keeps you guessing of what treasures could be found within the space. Gold chains, rare coins, sports memorabilia, wads of cash or who knows what other treasures fill one’s mind! All the thoughts of treasures aside, just remember that there’s no guarantee of the value of a unit’s contents.

This brings me to the aspect of self storage auctions and people making a career out of buying delinquent spaces and turning them over for a profit. I have met many different people while in the self storage industry that go from auction to auction using their best judgment to purchase delinquent spaces and make a profession out of it. Many of these entrepreneurs are also tenants of our facilities as well. Having a large self storage space makes it quite convenient for them to purchase the space and then transfer all of the items they would like to keep into their own unit and then discard the rest by bringing it to the dump or giving it to people who could make good use of it. Now since we require the auctioned space to be cleared within 24 hours, they do not have to go insane clearing their purchased space out running all over the place or renting moving truck in order to get everything out in a timely manner.

A lot of these people who make a profession out of buying auctioned units have various different means of selling the items once they have them all sorted out. From what I have been told many of these people sell the items they believe hold value or think they can sell in a few different ways. From what these auction winners tell me they either sell their items on E-Bay, Craig’s List or in a thrift shop. I have been told that E-Bay is the most effective way to sell items because they simply take a picture of the item they are trying to sell, make a description on E-Bays website and then set an auction up for the highest bidder. Once the auction has been held and someone has won all the seller has to do is ship or mail the item to the winner and take their payment right online. E-Bay is great to sell items because you are literally selling your items to anyone who goes on the E-Bay website which ranges from the United States and also most countries around the world if you select that option. Also, with E-Bay your chances of selling your items are more likely than say Craig’s List or a thrift shop because there may be someone out there looking to purchase specific items that people in your local area are not looking to purchase.

Craig’s list being another way to sell items also has its perks because you can sell to your local area or state specifically. There is no doubt that you may end up getting a lot of inquiries for your items with no buyers while using Craig’s list, but it really can be an effective way to sell your items. Craig’s list is especially usefully with larger items such as washers and dryers, refrigerators, dish washers and other larger items that people would keep in their storage units simply because people can come right to you to pick the item. It wouldn’t make much sense to sell larger items on E-Bay where they would have to be shipped out which in some cases shipping could cost more than the item is worth. Craig’s list is also great for specialty items such as antique furniture or large collectibles like old bikes or pinball machines that may be hard to find and need to be advertised to that specialty collector. Basically, Craig’s list is great for selling any item that wouldn’t necessarily be practical to ship in the mail.

The last way of selling items I would like to mention would be through a store front such as a thrift shop or a flea market. Some people who purchase units do have a store front which is great because they have a place to sell their items but, not everyone can afford a store front which in most cases a lot of people enjoy setting up a table or a stand at a local flea market to sell their stuff. Flea markets are a great hobby for people who like to sell and for people who just like to just get out on the weekend to do a little shopping. All sorts of people will show up at flea markets so it is a fantastic way to meet people, have a little fun and put a little money in your pocket by selling the items won in a storage auction.

Overall people who win storage auctions most definitely utilize storage units and storage space for their items that they win and having a self storage unit helps them keep their items organized so they can sort through the items they decide to keep. Ultimately most people who win self storage auctions are looking to strike it rich in finding various treasures throughout people’s delinquent units but most people who make a career out of buying self storage units have to strategically sell their items through various different ways in order to make a profit at the end of the day.

  • Pay attention to search and social PR – Organic web search has been using social media for a long time. The collaboration of both social media profiles with search engines is what led to the introduction of services like Google+ and the Google Knowledge Graph. Plumbers and why they need to use self storage

Most people really never think about what a plumber does until they need one. I have done a bit of research and plumbers do a lot that most of us would not know about unless we looked it up or asked someone in that field of work. You would not think it but plumbing is a very satisfying job. Just think they help people get water issues resolved and they even fix clogged toilets. This makes the customer very happy. Some of their tasks they do on a day to day basis are installing or maintaining heat systems, repairing sanitation systems , fixing dish washers , installing air conditioning units, fitting bathrooms and let’s not forget all the emergency calls they take care of. Plumbers do all this and more for commercial properties as well. They plan out where to lay the pipes during the construction time of the building. Most plumbers work 40 hrs per week not including any emergency call that may come in. The average pay scale for a new plumber is around 21 thousand and a plumber that is experienced can make about 35 thousand per year.

Plumbers spend most of the time on site dealing with customers.  There are some bad parts to this job for an example they work with raw sewerage and dangerous chemicals.  This is not a trade that you can just learn from dad or grandpa you need to go to school for it and pass a test that the state gives you. After all that is done you then have to be an apprentice for about 4 years. The next level is to become a plumber which you then would stay at that level for about 6 or 7 years then you can move up to be called the master plumber.

Plumbers have so many different tools they use but here is a few of the top tools they use often. The Toilet Auger and this is used to clear clogs in toilets. The Flange Plunger is specially shaped plunger that seals the hole at the bottom of your toilet bowl. This can be used for the sinks and tubs as well. A sink Auger is the most valuable to most plumbers because it is easily used and great at braking down clogs in sinks and tubs. They use a cup plunger that most people have in the home it is only use for sinks not toilets.

Most people do not know that and use it incorrectly. Teflon Tape is a material that’s always in a plumber’s box. This tape is a great tool to prevent leaks at by the threaded plumbing joint connections. There are also many different types of wrenches that they use as well. If you only knew how many different types of piping there is out in the plumbing world you would be shocked. You have plastic and copper pipe to choose from when installing pipes in your home.

The thing that gets tricky is the size of each part and how many elbows (the things that connect pipes) you would need to buy. Oh let’s not forget the length of each pipe that you need to install. What fixtures will fit in the customer’s bathroom or kitchen and put them in properly.   See this job is not as easy as we all think.

Plumbers have a use for Self Storage because they always need a place to put all their supplies. Most people do not have a lot of extra space in their homes to put any additional things that does not pertain to the home. So we provide a location that can serve as a staging area for their business as well storing their materials. It’s an affordable alternative to leasing an expensive shop or having to use the garage at their home. Plumbers always have extra pipes, tape, glue, elbows, and tools left over from most jobs they do. The reason for this is because they want to make sure they have some room from error. If they cut the pipe wrong it’s not going to set them back a day they can just come to their unit and get a new piece and start again. If they can get some supplies on sale why not pick them up and save them the hassle. The over stock just goes in the unit.  That is way more convenient then waiting on line at a store to get what they need. The 24/7 access is great for them because they do get those emergency calls all hours of the night for the pipe that busted.    Also if they are not a one man show they can send their workers to the Self Storage unit instead of having people at their residence all the time. It’s really a matter of what practical for your you and your company when you’re a plumber or any other company to be precise. Really who wants equipment that that been around sewage in their garage?  Not me that for sure. I would definitely be using a Self Storage facility. Just think about it one emergency call would pay for a whole month of your storage unit. You can’t beat the convince and affordability this affords you.  Talk about a no brainer. This is why plumbers bring their CPVC tubing, fitting and clamps, and all the rest of their tools to us at Storage Station.

Now that you know of some of the things plumbers use to do their daily tasks you should better understand why we often call on them for help. I think everyone should call a plumber to fix things that have water running in or through them. You never know if the issue is big or small or if it could make a huge mess like a flood. With all that being said I think I will call a local plumber and let him deal with whatever plumbing problem we may come across in my house.

This is why they went to school for and took all the time they did to master the trade that they do for our community .
