Give me your’ tired, your’ poor, your’ huddled masses yearning…for storage space? While you may recognize the first few lines of this literary work, I’m sure you can recognize the simple change we’ve made. While of course, the original piece was about immigrants from other countries looking for a better life here in America, the same sentiment rings true for us here at the Storage Station, when it comes town our local contractors and construction personal.
We all know that the economy of this great country is not what it once was, and one of the hardest hit areas of our work force and job market has been the construction industry. As our housing market is still not anywhere near stabilized, home improvement and building companies have yet to be able to make their return to profitability. With the decline in expendable “play” money, and home improvement projects being shelved so people can pay their bills, many of the local construction companies have laid workers of, and cut costs in any way they can.
The days of 1000sqft warehouses, and 3 bay garages full of equipment and tools, have gone the way of the Dodo Bird, giving way to the days of entire companies operating out of a van or pick-up truck just to cut down on operating expenses. For those companies that haven’t been forced to become a company on wheels, a garage packed from floor to ceiling with tools, materials, and everything else you can imagine, is more than likely the vein of the company owner’s wife. Construction workers personal garages, normally used for cars and gardening tools, have now become the resting place of an entire companies worth of items, meaning there isn’t any room to keep the car parked inside, and those leather car seats get some hot in the Summer. Now, not only is the family car sitting out in the sun and rain, but all the kids’ bikes and toys are scattered throughout the yard instead of tucked away nice and neat.
For those of you who have ever worked construction, you know that not only do you have to worry about tools in the garage, but a lot of companies’ also have trailers that you tow behind the company vehicle with all of the large items you can’t fit in a cargo fan, i.e. cement mixers, stump grinders, and what not. So not only have you taken the entire garage for your tools, but you’ve also taken a good portion of the drive way up with the enclosed or landscaping trailer that helps make your business run. What was once your sanctuary, your personal get away from work and the stresses that it entails, has now become overrun with the constant reminder of the hustle and bustle of deadlines, payroll, and finding jobs. Well, we’re here to tell you, take a load off and let us help you with a self storage unit. Now, before you turn your face and make that sound with your mouth that is normally accompanied by a sigh of frustration, let me give you a couple of reasons why keeping your company going with a storage unit is a great way to make things a lot simpler and help keep your sanity.
First and foremost, a huge benefit to a self storage unit is the ease of access. As it is now, for most of you, everything you have is piled in your garage at home, and every time you need to find a tool or supply that’s not right at your finger tips, you have to completely empty out the room to find what it is that you are looking for. Not only are you wasting time searching for items, but the wear and tear on your body that lifting things over and over again is immeasurable. With a self storage unit, you can install removable shelving units, which will not only allow you to keep everything organized hence saving time searching, but will also make it so that you only have to pick up your equipment when it’s needed. You will no longer have to pull the jackhammer out to grab the tool box out from behind it each time you need it, and having these tools at your finger tips, even elevated if the weight of the item allows it, means that you will no longer spend countless hours hunched over picking these items up. Your back is feeling better already I’m sure, and the thought of gaining an hour or two a day from not having to move every tool you have just to find the one you need, is sure to put a smile on your face. Many of our contractors have drive up units, allowing them to pull up to their unit, open the door, load (or unload) whatever they need for the day, hook up the trailer that they have also rented a parking space for, and take off. What could be quicker and easier than that?
Secondly, and I think most importantly, another great benefit of keeping your companies equipment at a self storage facility is the added peace of mind. While we all face the stress of daily life, one of the things that we can all look forward to is punching out at the end of the day and heading home to relax and do what we enjoy doing. For some of us this means spending time with our families, while for others it’s getting out on the lake fishing. Whatever it is that you do with your free time, it’s hard to enjoy it when you’re constantly bombarded with reminders of work.
For many of us, once we pull out of that parking lot at 5:00, the old saying, “Out of sight, out of mind”, rings true. We leave at quitting time, and everything we just dealt with is forgotten until 9:00 the next morning. The human mind, and body of that matter, needs that down time to rest and recover. With that being said, how does someone relax when they get home, and everything from that day’s work follows them. Would you be able to relax if when you went home, you were constantly staring at the spreadsheets you worked on that day or the documents you spent all day scanning and shredding, were piled up in your drive way? When do these poor guys get a chance to relax and just breathe? Not only are they worn out physically from a long day of work, but they are also constantly mentally exhausted for dealing with the mental stresses of work, 24 hours a day. Having a self storage unit, allows them to get that mental break that we all take for granted. A unit here with us at the Storage Station, allows you the contractor, to leave everything behind and enjoy whatever the rest of your day brings. So take the time to relax, hit some golf balls, go fishing, or play at the park with your kids.
We here at the Storage Station would like to take a moment to thank all of our local construction workers, electricians, plumbers, iron workers, and all other laborers for everything that they do to keep our community going strong, and we are here to help with all of your storage needs.
